Everything in Twos...

A pair of something is better than one. Or so I think. I have two beautiful little girls, I had two sweet cats, one passed last year, and now I have two super cute, but slightly annoying dogs. Last week, we adopted our second puppy, Miss Cleo.

Isn't she so cute! We all just love her. She is such a sweet little dog. She is a pit mix, and we think she has some kind of terrier, like Bull Terrier, or Boston Terrier, or possibly Jack Russell. She is about 6-7 months old, and only 22 lbs. The vet says she will only be about 30 lbs. Big difference from my other moose. Who I love like crazy too. Cleo is a total love, and loves to snuggle with me and the girls.

Coco is our other dog, a Black Lab Mix, mostly Lab. We adopted her last September after we had to put our cat to sleep. All of my animals have been adopted from animal shelters. I strongly urge you to save an animal, rather than purchase one. There are so many benefits to this. What is it Cesar Milan says, "a pure breed dog is just a dog in a fancy suit." So there's my PSA for the month, lol.

Last week I thought I was getting better, but I wasn't. I have never been so sick in my life. Turns out, after a chest xray, I have asthma, which I had once in high school. I have asthmatic bronchitis, and am allergic to something in the house. They did allergy testing on me this week, and I am just waiting to hear the results. I have the rawest nose around, from blowing it constantly for over 2 weeks. They have me on so much medicine, but the prednisone I just started seems to be helping the most. But enough of that. You don't really want to hear about that.

There is lots of fabric still available. I will put a quick link on the side of my blog to the post sometime soon, so it doesn't get buried. All orders are done...yeah! Everything is starting to wind down for the holidays.

We braved the cold last night, under 30 degrees and super windy to get our Christmas tree. We always get a real tree, but I think this will be the last year of that. I have always resisted getting a fake one, but a nice big pre lit one sounds pretty good to me now. The pine needles already...ugh. But it smells pretty, and it must smell strong, because I can't smell much. Tonight we will decorate it with the girls. It's been a strange year for us here, and I am happy to see it almost over, albeit, it was a fast one. The rest of the house is decorated, I am almost done Christmas shopping for the girls, and tomorrow night is our annual Christmas party. I am looking forward to it.

Speaking of holidays, my fabulously talented friend, Timi, is having her annual blog makeover event! It's the perfect time to redo your blog, and I don't have to tell you how incredible Timi is. ;) Her December list is full already, so hop on over to sign up for January. Ugh. I have had the worst sinus infection for almost a week now. I can't taste at all, smell, and I can barely hear. I couldn't even taste my Thanksgiving dinner I spent four hours making. Today was the first appointment I could get at the doctor. I can't wait to go! I have been using a netipot and taking Mucinex to try to alleviate some of the congestion. Works for a minute, then it comes right back. I am so tired of being sick.

We decided to extend the Thanks sale until today, so today is the last day to get 20% off your entire order. Just enter the code Thanks at checkout. Hodgepodge will only be available until January 1st. Then we will be getting ready for spring. Just wanted to give you fair warning.

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving. Ours was nice with the exception of me being sick. The day after Thanksgiving, the NYSE has family day. We get to go to work with Chris on the floor, and then go upstairs to do all the activities. Marvel comics sponsored it this year. So I was up at 5:30 am to go with Chris and the girls. I so was not feeling good, but I had to go so the girls could go upstairs and do all the activities. The girls love going, and it is quite interesting to watch what Chris does, and see all the buzz on the floor. Chris's spot is right when the reporters film on CNBC, and guess what? We were on tv. My mom happened to catch it, and DVR'd it, and there we were with Chris. Ava had on her GenMarie, which caught my mom's eye as she was flipping through the channels. I haven't seen it, but I wish I would have thought to DVR it. The kids would have gotten such a kick out of seeing themselves. The girls got gift bags and got to get spray tattoos, their faces painted, see Santa and a magic show, and do some arts and crafts. They had a great time.

I can't believe Christmas is less than a month away! I have not started shopping yet, and need to get my butt in gear. They did get all the Zhu Zhu Pets and their accessories thanks to my mom who lives down south. I told her about it in September, and she was able to find them then. They will be so excited. It was a nice mild day here yesterday, so Chris got the girls dressed and I dragged myself out to take their pictures for our Christmas cards. We went to my favorite spot down the road, brought my $5 garage sale find chair, and took 10 minutes to get some really pretty shots of them.

I am really happy with the way they came out. I forget how much I love photography. I need to spend more time working on it.

The Hudson Dress...

Finally... but it was so worth the wait! Many of you may have noticed it was missing from the site. Great designs sometimes need to be reworked to make sure they are perfect, and I couldn't be happier with this piece. I spent many hours developing this pattern, and reworking it to get it just right. I absolutely love the results. I wanted to make a shirt dress that would be different from those hanging on racks everywhere right now. I had a vision of something retro and a bit glamourous, yet wearable any day, and found the perfect fabric to set off the design. This is truly my signature piece. From the beautiful ruffle that curves around the neckline down the front, to the shirring to add even more feminine detail. All we needed was the perfect photo, and we certainly got that! Huge thanks to Mariel and her beautiful daughter for stepping in to save the day! I can't thank them enough! Don't you just love her! I hate that all our amazing photographers live so far. If you are in the Austin, Texas area, you must set up a shoot with Mariel! Her vision is art and I love working with her!

You'll notice the skirt above is one of our new designs, the Downtown Skirt. I love the clean lines of it, and the slightly modern edge. This skirt is made for boots! And the shirred peasant top... just layer it with our Walnut Cafe tee for cold days. The top has lots of shirring, and an elbow length sleeve which gives it a totally different look. And of course, Mariel and her daughter rocked this photo too!

It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is this Thursday! I have so much to be thankful for. For one, I have the most wonderful supportive family in the world, and the most beautiful friends and customers who give me endless inspiration. I am truly a lucky girl.

Saw New Moon Thursday night, and I loved it! I was a bit disappointed with the end, but over all, I can't wait to see it again.

Not A Morning Person...

Seems these days, thanks to the lovely time change, my wake up call is anywhere between 5 am - 6 am. So not good for me. A mandatory coffee increase has done nothing except make me crash an hour after I drink my last cup. This morning, I ran out of French Vanilla coffee creamer and had just enough Chocolate Mint Truffle to have my last cup. BTW~ this is the yummiest coffee creamer ever! It's a limited holiday item, and I found it at Target a week ago. It's like drinking a peppermint patty with your coffee, so good. Night seems to be when I have the most energy, and get the most work done. I love the quiet of the house, and the peace and calm I feel. I always get my best ideas after 10 pm.

How hot is this photo!? I can't believe New Moon is less than one week away! I am so excited! I have been waiting for this like the rest of you since I read the book. My bff Jen and I are making a night of it. Dinner together, then off to wait for at least an hour before it premiers to ensure we get a good seat. We have our tickets already, 12:05 am! Good thing Chris is off next week so I can sleep in the next morning, although I would have tortured myself anyway. ;) It will so be worth it! And of course I have to reread the book for the umpteenth time before then.

I really love this photo. Their faces are just precious. And those headbands are killer! Anthropologie...I should have known. Timi & I have something new and exciting planned for December. I can't tell you yet, but it is something we haven't done before. We're both really excited about it, and the rush of creating something new is always great. Plus this project will allow us to stretch creatively.

In less than four hours, Hodgepodge hits the market! Are you excited?! I am! At 8 pm EST, the new site will be launched, and the collection revealed. A few things I have to mention first. We are missing a few photos, but I did not want to hold back anymore. We will put them up as they come in, I am hoping Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, this was out of our control. Of course, I will let you all know as soon as they are on, in fact I will give you at least an hour notice. In the meantime, you can shop to ensure you get what you would like, and then up until next Monday, we will combine any multiple orders and refund shipping differences. The reason for doing this, putting it up now, is this is a limited collection. If you see something you have to have, order it now, don't wait. Fabric was limited, and I want to make sure you get what you want. There will be about a 3 week wait time. Not ideal, I know, but with manufacturing in house, and expecting high volume, I didn't want to say it would be less time. But I promise, it will not be longer than 3 weeks. My partner in crime Timi, will be handling the shipping and customer service from here on out. Yes, this is the same Timi who wows us all with her graphic genius. A huge weight off my shoulders. is the date Hodgepodge launches! We needed a few extra days to get photos in, and the new site set up. Yes, I said NEW site! Wait till you see the genius of Timi. This is like nothing you have seen before. Hodgepodge was truly a collaboration between Timi and I. I have had the great joy of working with Timi now for years, and her friendship means so much to me. It was such a natural progression for us to combine our ideas and make this line. The clothing design is mine, and the visual concepts are hers. Not to mention the amazing, and I truly mean that, amazing photographers we have shooting for us this season! These women are so talented, if you live in their area, you have to schedule a shoot with them. I am half tempted to fly to them myself. Their talent and vision is truly art. Big thanks to Amelia and Kristen for their time and talent, you were a huge part of making my vision reality.

Hodgepodge was truly a labor of love, and a challenge for me. I wanted to give you new fresh designs that would be trendy, yet timeless. I carefully chose the most beautiful fabrics and the softest knits. I am so excited to offer it to you. Thank you to all of you who have stood by and supported GenMarie! It means so much.

A funny, but no so funny story...the other night, Chris and I went out to dinner for our anniversary which was a few weeks ago. We got to my favorite Italian restaurant. Dinner is great as always, and I am eating creme brulee, and I am thinking the sugar on top is awfully crunchy. I take the crunchy part out of my mouth. Chris looks down and says, "that is a piece of your tooth." And sure enough, it was. I don't know what it is with me and August and my teeth, but it's never good. I cracked the whole back of my tooth off. Thankfully, I already had a root canal on it, so off I go Thursday to get it crowned. At least it doesn't hurt.

I will be hunting around on Facebook for photos of little ones wearing GenMarie. You never know what I might do. :)

Bonjour mes amis...

I know, it seems to take me forever to get on here and blog...really I need to get better at it again. Summer is fleeting, and I can't believe school will be starting in a month. We had such weird weather here in July, that it hasn't felt much like summer until recently. I asked a friend lately who I hadn't seen how their summer has been, and they said, " busy with a whole lot of nothing." That sounds about right to me. But it is time to be busy with a purpose, so with that said...

I have dusted off my sewing machines, and removed the cobwebs from my creative brain. No matter what I do in life, I always come back to doing what I love best, making children's clothing. It has been the one constant in my life for years, and it still derives such pleasure for me. A lot of you have asked me if I was doing a Fall line, and the answer is yes, kind of...let me explain. I am redirecting GenMarie. Instead of making two big lines each year, I am going to do several smaller lines, to allow me to burn through my creativity and the mounds of fabric I have here. Seriously, you would die to see my garage and sewing room. My first new line will be an early Fall line entitled "Hodepodge". And just like the name implies, it will be a random collection of fabulous pieces to carry your little ones into Fall. There will be some new designs, along with some old favorites, and lots of color! Much of it will be limited in quantity, and only a handful of each piece will be made. So for those of you who thrive on unique, this is for you. The following line inspired by one of the most amazing cities around, NYC, will be enititled "LOFT". I will be burning the midnight oil for the next few weeks, and rather than manufacturing, the upcoming lines will be lovingly sewn by myself and a few fab seamstresses, which will make them even more special in my book. Like your treasured childhood sweaters knitted by your grandmother. I am really excited for you to see, and have a few amazing photogs line up. One being, the amazing lady, Felicia, of The Littlest Heroes Project. I am sure you recall me mentioning her before, as she is one of the most beautiful souls alive. She recently sent me these beautiful photos.

I love how she captured the playfulness and innocence of this sweet little doll. She is super cute! And congrats to Miss Felicia as she is shooting prospectively for The Children's Place. I encourage to check out her organization and read Felicia's story. She is truly inspirational.

I do want to take a moment to thank those of you who have emailed me with caring words to brighten my days, and shared your own personal stories with me. I have been really bad with email, but know that you kindness and love has touched me deeply.

Crossroads....

Ever since my miscarriage, it seems my life has been at a crossroads. I didn't think it was going to effect me as much as it did. I think what it is, is that this was my last chance to have a baby. My husband is dead set against having any more, and has scheduled his procedure. I am not fighting him on this, but I am not 100% happy either. I spent a lot of time the past weeks contemplating what I really want. I still don't know. But I guess marriage is about compromise, so I will give this time. I have been weighing all the pros and cons of adding to our family, and still am at a standstill. I am very happy with my two girls, and know I am truly blessed they are both healthy and happy. Somber is just the best way to describe how I feel.... kind of lost.

I apologize for not being around, but I am trying to get back into the swing of things. June was a crazy month here, end of school, and pretty much rained all month. That was a real pick me up. Check out the new songs I added to the playlist, they are very peaceful and pretty.

Harmony is now 40% off, and I still have some gifts to give with your orders. I am out of the size 2 gifts, and may try to find something to substitute. The website is working again properly, although it still needs to be updated a bit. I will work on that tonight. I have more than what is listed. My computer has been whonky, and my email just started to work this morning, I got almost 2,000 emails, and I am not exaggerating.

It's Been Awhile...

a little over a month actually. A lot has been happening here. We finally resided our house. It was the worst color of burnt pumpkin orange. They must have had a sale on siding when the builder chose it. Now it looks beautiful! It took my poor husband 10 days to do it himself, with some help from his Dad, and his brother. Take a look.

With all of this, I have decided I will be taking the summer off to spend with the girls. Ava goes to kindergarten next year, and it has been a busy year, and I need to slow down. I will probably post on my blog very infrequently, but I will still be around. I will more than likely come back in the Fall with some exclusive mini collections, and maybe a few art fair pieces.

How does it get to be Wednesday so fast?! I swear, before I know it, it's here already. Week half over.

Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes! I have to say, it was the best birthday ever, ok, getting engaged for my 23rd Birthday topped this one, but it was a great one. Two of my best friends from middle school took me out to dinner in Manhattan. The weather was beautiful here in NY on Friday. That only added to the greatness. We ate at this adorable little Italian place, and were able to sit outside at the cute little tables on the sidewalk and enjoy the warm night air. The food was great, the wine, even better, and of course the company was the best.

You might recognize Melissa and Jenn from previous blog posts. I have known these two lovely ladies since I was 12! Aneida is a good friend of Jenn's, and has become a great friend of mine. This photo was taken at a fun bar in the West Village near Melissa's apartment. We had a blast! I didn't get home until 5am...don't remember the last time I did that. I paid for that the next day, let me tell you, lol.

Saturday was Emma's first soccer game! It was so much fun to watch. This is the first year Emma is playing soccer. She did awesome! She took a hit to the mouth early on, and bled a little. I thought for sure, she was going to be done for the day at that point. But the little trouper got right back in there, scored her first two goals, and had some pretty dirty knees! She was a true soccer player, aggressive and unafraid. Her face when she scored her first goal was priceless! Take a look. She was so proud of herself.

It was just the perfect weekend! It was warm again on Saturday, and we had our first firepit of the season. The kids made their versions of s'mores, and fell asleep on us while we were enjoying the fire. They had a busy day.

2 Days...

until my 32nd birthday. I have decided that this is the last year I am counting. I figure people tell me I look like I am 25, so I have at least 7 years to get away with saying I am 32. ;)

It has been a very stressful week and a half, and I so appreciate all of your emails. They certainly brightened my days. I believe that everyone is taken care of, and please, if you have any problems, contact me, so I can take care of it.

Creating has always relaxed me, and taken over my mind. I am working on some one of a kind pieces which I will put on my website. The website will be back up soon. Some totally cute items perfect for spring/summer. Soleil is up in the air right now, but I will keep you informed. I am trying really hard to bring it to you.

This venture of GenMarie has brought me many emotions, and a lot of challenges. I do not regret the decision to take GenMarie to this level. Sure, life would have been easier if I would have kept it small, but I wouldn't have been happy until I tried. I started this company three years ago, as a hobby, and it has brought me so much more. We will keep bringing you beautiful clothing, and work to overcome our challenges.

Boy, it's been a while, huh? Sorry about that. Crazy week last week. I am terribly sorry to say that we are going to have to delay the opening of Soleil a few weeks. It is a time manufacturing issue. But all good things come those who wait, right? I will let you know the date, the minute I know. We have a meeting this weekend about it. I do apologize, and no one is more disappointed than me at the delay.

Now, I have to sidetrack for a minute. I spent time last week reading the Twilight series, and...ahhhhh..... if you haven't read the books, you simply have to! They are just beyond amazing, so capturing. If you are a romantic, then you will love these. You just can't put them down. I had the first book for a few weeks, and had no time to read it. Then of course, I saw it came out on DVD, and I couldn't wait to watch it. I was going to try to read the book first, but I just couldn't hold off. Ladies, watch this movie, by yourself! You will want to take it all in. Especially this. Swoon......

Seriously, who is that gorgeous? He is just breath taking. I stayed up late all week reading, until my eyes could no longer focus. Yes, it is that good, I promise. I am dying for the second movie to come out, and it won't until November! Ugh! Guess, I will just have to reread the books until then. The soundtrack rocks, btw, you can listen to it on my playlist. Check out the songs by Rob Pattinson, so good.

I'm Back...

And I have peeks to share with you! It was a fun but exhausting trip. We got hit with over a foot of snow before I left on Monday, which made getting any errands done impossible. So it was a mad dash on Tuesday to finish up what I needed to before I got on the plane at 6:30 pm. My husband was in charge of shipping when I left, and he got a bit confused, so if you are waiting for a sale item, never fear, I am taking care of it today. I apologize about that. There are just never enough hours in the day to get everything done.

These are some of my favorite shots of Soleil, available April 1st, and no, it isn't the whole line. These were just too good not to share with you. And I want you to know that I did not overwork the photos, the fabrics are really that rich and bright. So perfect for summer. Soleil is very much a tribute to one of my favorite fabric designers and friends, Jennifer Paganelli. Jennifer's fabrics have been inspiring me since I started out three years ago. She is one of the most talented woman around, and if you have the opportunity to meet her, you will see what an amazing and sweet person she is.

The mint green knits are in the photo above. I will be adding them to the site today hopefully. We had a great time. I had the challenge of shooting the line, and it was challenging, but very rewarding. Bet you didn't know I could do that. ;) Hope you all had a great week! I am so overwhelmed by the response to Harmony! It has been a fabulous start to the season, and I am so touched by all the wonderful comments. You all totally ROCK! I wanted to mention a few things that really make me happy. One, we have an amazing new manufacturer with tons of experience, so I am happy to say our sizing is worlds better than last season, and is very true to size. (Thank you, my love. ;)) This will make ordering so much easier. Two, we have a third party shipper shipping our items out, so our shipping time is down to one-two weeks. I know that has to make you happy, because it thrills me! And three, we have a brand new computer system which will make ordering so much smoother, and prevent lots of glitches. We really spent a lot of time during the break working out ways to improve your shopping experience with us. We want you to be beyond thrilled with not only your GenMarie goodies, but your overall experience. I have had questions about if Harmony is available online, and it is not, only through an FC. But the sale items will remain on the website. I have to say, I couldn't be more excited about everything this season. And I must thank my amazing FC's for always doing such an incredible job! You are such a huge part of not only GenMarie, but my life.

I wanted to share some sweet photos with you, since we can only put so many on our website.

Oh, and remember the amazing Felicia? She sent me over this adorable photo of this sweetie, taken through her organization, The Littlest Heroes Project. I just completely admire Felicia for all she does, and am so honored to be a part of her work.

One last thing to talk about , before I go back to work. I know many of you are eagerly awaiting Annie's dress. Here's the deal. We had to move it back to the summer collection, due out April 1st. I know, I know, please don't kill me. We tried really hard to get it just right but with the knits we had, it just wasn't working, and it has to be perfect. I just found what I wanted, and we will have Annie's gorgeous design in Soleil. I hope you aren't too disappointed, you know how much I hate that. I just couldn't put something out there that wouldn't be all you or Annie expected, but you only have to wait a few more weeks. I promise it will be worth it.

I am off to finish up Soleil, and I have to say, if you are loving Harmony, wait until you see Soleil!

Or should I say, am I ready, lol. I have been burning the midnight oil, and promise to answer all emails in the morning. I've got a super sick kid too in the mix, poor Em has been running a really high fever. She has the flu.

I loved reading all the comments, and noticed a few of you saying how you need your little one to grow to get into her GenMarie, which totally made me smile. Well, you talked, I listened. We will have smaller sizes in our Soleil collection, debuting in April. We will start our sizing at 12 months. Not all pieces will be available in the smaller sizes, but we will have a few exclusive pieces just for our little fans, plus some of the bigger sized pieces. I can hear the applause from here, lol. Seriously, how cute it is going to be see little babies in GenMarie. I can't wait!

Gina, did put peeks on her blog, and quite a few late yesterday. But in case you missed it, here are my favs from her. And you still haven't seen everything. ;)

On a side note, say a prayer for my mother-in-law. She is in emergency surgery this morning. She has an infection in her intestine, like diverticulitis, and they are removing part of her intestine. We visited her yesterday, and she looked terrible, and was in so much pain. I could see her color wasn't right. They were going to make her wait until Friday to do the surgery to see if the antibiotics could take care of it, but after putting a tube down her nose, and her continuing to get worse, they went ahead and made the decision at one in the morning to do the surgery. We are awaiting word from my father-in-law. I will let you know how it went.

Many of you have heard of the new law called the CPSIA. If you haven't, the new Consumer Safety Law would require manufacturers of any product intended for children under the age of 12 to be tested for lead. While I am all for protecting our children, this law as it was written would put many companies, both large and small out of business. The testing is very expensive and the testing facilities are few. I do want to let you know, that all of the fabric we use for our garments has been certified lead free from the fabric manufacturers. I consulted with our attorney about the law and was pleased to learn, that the law is under review and toy makers and manufacturers, have been given an additional year, while lawmakers review the specifics of the law. WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. makers of toys and other children's products will get an extra year to comply with certain lead and chemical testing rules, but retailers won't be able to sell the items if they fail to meet government regulations set to go into effect Feb. 10.

The deadline was set when Congress last summer imposed the toughest lead standards in the world in passing the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. The measure bans lead beyond minute levels in products for children 12 or younger.

On Friday, members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission voted unanimously to push back by one year the Feb. 10 deadline for manufacturers to begin certain testing for lead and other harmful substances before their products hit the market.

The decision gives the commission extra time to set guidelines for testing the products and gives businesses temporary relief from paying for some testing. But it raises questions as to how retailers from Wal-Mart to the local thrift shop will know whether the children's products they sell will meet the federal lead standards.

"The action by CPSC provides no relief to manufacturers and retailers," said Ed Krenik, a member of the National Association of Manufacturers CPSC Coalition.

Businesses and industry groups are concerned about the impact the new testing rules would have on books, clothes and other items already on shelves and in warehouses. They fear that inventory that does not meet the new standards won't be sold.

The new law was driven by a national outcry over a series of recalls of toys and children's products contaminated by lead and other dangerous material.

Under the law, all children's products must be tested for lead and other harmful substances to ensure that chemicals posing possible health problems will not end up on toys and articles that kids chew on and play with.

"The action we are taking today puts in place a limited 'time-out' so that the commission and the Congress can address the issues with the law that have become so painfully apparent," said Nancy Nord, the commission's acting chairman, in a written statement.

The commission's decision doesn't affect the testing requirements for lead paint, children's jewelry and certain standards for cribs and small parts that also fall under the new law.

The Toy Industry Association on Friday said it had joined more than 60 other groups in calling for the commission to postpone enforcing the law for at least six months.

"Many small and medium sized-companies could be pushed to the point of possible bankruptcy because they will be left holding billions of dollars in inventory that is now worthless, although it poses no safety threat to children," said Carter Keithley, president of the association.

Happy Birthday My Sweet Baby!

Yesterday was Emma's 6th Birthday. I am so proud of the little girl she has become, but I am sad too, at the baby that has left. I spent yesterday morning, reflecting back to the day I had her, and the emotions I felt when I saw her for the first time. I miss my baby, but I love my little girl. Time moves so quickly, and I need to stop and take it all in more, because it is gone in the blink of an eye. Emma had a wonderful birthday, we had a party for her at a jumper place with her kindergarten friends, then family over for cake last night. It was the kind of birthday I would have loved as a child, and I am so happy Chris and I get to give that to her.

Of course, I can't find a picture from her 5th birthday...I think it was lost in my old computer.

Happy Birthday my beautiful girl...I will love you forever and always.

200th Post...

I just saw when I was logging in to post, that this is my 200th post. So, I guess I better make this a good one. ;)

First let me say, I am all caught up shipping sale orders. Sorry for the slight delay. We were out of town, and that threw us off for a bit.

Second, have I got peeks for you! We were shooting the line, and I just couldn't wait to show you. I hope you love Harmony as much as I do. We are aiming to open up within a few weeks, so not too long! I will give you an exact date soon. I do suggest contacting an FC to get your order or show together early. Like I said before, this is a limited line. Due to restructuring our team, please contact me to find an FC. We really wanted to keep GenMarie a close knit group of amazing gals. So I didn't give you much, but I wanted to give you something. I am very excited. One because I seriously love this line! And two, because my girls were models this season. They used to always model for me all the time, and it has been awhile since I have seen them in photos for GenMarie, so this was a real treat. Gina rocked as always, and I promise I will have more for you soon.

The Whining....

You've heard of The Shining, well we have The Whining here. Ava is in her room right now, whining because I wouldn't let her go in the shower with me. It is going on a good 10 minutes now. She apparently doesn't like me anymore, I am not her best friend, and it's not fair. :)

So I am not high on the popularity list today, but what can you do. No one ever said being a parent made you popular. And I am sure, this is just the beginning. Oh, how I wish I could smoosh them back to being babies, even just for a minute. They were so cute and cuddly, and I was their best friend.

I have a funny to share with you. Music is always on in this house, all kinds. The girls have been listening to Britney Spears, yeah, I know. Hey, at least she turned herself around. Anyway, they were listening to Womanizer. Today, Chris takes my truck to the dealership. I swear, we just got it back after a week of it being there to get fixed, and one of the lights came on. And not to mention the transmission fluid that is spilled all over the under carriage from them fixing it, and my whole truck stinks! He is waiting with Ava, and talking to a guy there. Ava starts singing womanizer, and Chris asks, what did you say. She says you're a womanizer. The guy just cracks up. I am sure he must be thinking his wife is saying this to him. I laughed so hard when Chris told me. Out of the mouth of babes...

Speaking of music, my newest addition to my ipod, is Fall Out Boy, I Don't Care. Love it. Not to mention, how hot is Pete Wentz?!

He has that whole baby face meets punk rocker, tattoo thing going on. Gotta love a bad boy.

Speaking of bad boys, Chris, no just kidding, he used to be a bad boy, but not anymore. Now he is Mr. GQ Wall Street Boy. But back to him, he got his haircut today, and that boy has had the same haircut for about 6 years. I need to convince him to grow it a bit, and do something different. Maybe more Pete Wentz, or McDreamy. Did you see Gray's this week?! I love Eric Stoltz! It was a good one, but I don't get where this Izzy Denny story line is going, but I love seeing Denny anyway.

Yes, I will admit it, I am a blog slacker. Sorry about that. The holidays kicked my butt, literally. I wound up with some strange stomach virus for 5 days that started the morning of New Year's Eve. I swear, there is nothing worse than that. I would rather have a cold, bronchitis, anything, other than a stomach virus. But enough about that.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! I can't believe it has come and gone already. So sad. The girls were so excited on Christmas Eve. Emma got up at 5:30 am Christmas morning and said Mommy, I can't sleep, I am so excited. So we all got up, and the unwrapping began.

I have a picture of them, in the same spot last year, sitting just like this, waiting to unwrap.

Loving their new HSM bathrobes, and each other for a brief moment. ;)

I am glad it is over in a way, and that a new year is upon us. Time for bigger and better things.

With that, I have to say, the spring line is done, and...gasp....you are going to LOVE it! It is so pretty! I think you will all be really excited about the new styles we added. And no, I can't show you yet...but, I will give you a little something.

I did say a little something, lol. This is one of our new pieces, and you are going to just die when you see it! It is one of my absolute favorites of the whole collection. I can't believe Christmas is only 5 days away! I am really excited for the girls this year. Chris and I, or should I say Chris, wrapped their gifts last night. He does the wrapping, I label. He is actually way better at it than me. We got some snow yesterday, and it will continue all weekend. What a fun way to start the Christmas break. It's Over...

That is the first season. It sure was a huge learning experience. I am grateful to all of you who supported us, and were patient. I promise next season will be way different. The entire line is now 50% off until it sells out. This includes hostess pieces. We are sold out of the Creamy Roses, Frog Garden, Tees, Birdy Halter and Sash, and there is no size 2 or 4 of the Sugar and Spice. You can email me to place an order, until we add the clearance section on the website. Hopefully that will be up by the weekend. Orders placed before Saturday will arrive in time for Christmas. Orders placed after Saturday unless you pay extra for overnighting, will not arrive in time for Christmas. You know how the mail is this time of year.

I am a bit behind on posting the auction items for the Burdick family. We were hit by the stomach virus here last week, and croup! Better then, then next week. Check in Thursday or Friday at the latest for the auction items. Thank you to those of you who have sent items.

I took my own picture of the girls this year for our Christmas cards. It was like pulling teeth. They have not been modeling and they were such a pain. I tried to get one with them and the dog too, that was funny! This was the best of the bunch.

Not too bad. They each just got their hair cut short about a week earlier.

A Horrible Tragedy...

This past Sunday, Meredith's best friend Amber and her 3 beautiful kids were in a horrible car accident on Sunday evening heading back home from a birthday party at the 380/Lake Forest intersection in McKinney, TX. Meredith is our Texas Fashion Consultant, and one of the best people you will ever know.

It is with a very sad and heavy heart to report that 4 year old Brett (Meredith's 4 year old daughter, Paige's best friend) wasn't able to fight through his injuries and passed away at 2:47 am Monday morning.

Amber's 8 year old son Andrew has a serious injury to his shin which will require several surgeries to repair the damage; he has had two so far with another tomorrow.

Thankfully, Amber and her 2 year old daughter, Danielle were not injured in the accident.

The Burdick Family needs our help. Amber's husband Chris, is a truck driver and does not earn money unless he is driving, and he needs to be home with his family for some time. Asides from living expenses, the family was not yet finished with Christmas shopping.

My heart is just breaking for this lovely family. Looking at the picture of sweet Brett, I can't even begin to imagine how Amber and Chris are feeling. I will be auctioning three one of a kind pieces here on my blog on Tuesday. Items can be bid on, by posting a comment. All the money earned will go directly to the Burdick family.

I will also be sending clothing and toys for Danielle and Andrew. Please bid generously for this grieving family. And if you have time to pick up an item for Danielle or Andrew for Christmas, that would be just wonderful. Every child deserves a beautiful Christmas, and this one will be harder than ever for all of them. You can also go into any Wells Fargo bank in the USA, and make a donation to the family.

I know that this is a tight time of year for everyone, but please if you can do anything at all to help the Burdick family. Give whatever you can, pick up a toy while you are out at Target, donate $5, bid on the items here next week. At the end of the day, we are all people with families we love, just think about if this was your son or daughter.

As I start this post, I am looking around at the mess which I call my bedroom. I really need to spend some time this weekend, putting my clean clothes away, and straightening up the papers on my computer desk. It's becoming very distracting.

Littlest Heroes Project...

Recently, I was contacted by the amazing Felicia, the founder of the Littlest Heroes Project. The Littlest Heroes Project is a non-profit based organization founded in January 2008, made up of professional photographers nationwide that provide free photo sessions to our nations Littlest Heroes. This is their way of giving back and taking a stand for these children who sometimes feel forgotten because of their illnesses. They are here to let them know that they are heroes to many, and to share their inspirational stories and photos with the world. Felicia was looking for partners to donate clothing for the photo sessions, and of course I jumped at the opportunity. It is an amazing organization, but the truly amazing part, is that Felicia is only 17 years old! Click here to read her amazing story. I read her story, and sat with tears in my eyes. Felicia is an incredible young woman, doing incredible things, who is leaving her mark on this world. I can't believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving already! I am cooking for twenty people. I love Thanksgiving. The food, relaxing with family, and just knowing it is the start of the holiday season. We decorate for Christmas this weekend, all except for the tree.

I put the links to the articles too. He is on CNBC quite a bit also. Once, he was in a PBS documentary about the brain. My father-in-law just happened to be watching it, and saw Chris.

We will be going into work with him on Friday. The Exchange does a Kid Day, and the girls went last year with him. This year I am going too. They have all kinds of activities for the kids. Photos with Santa, face painting, etc. With the exception of having to get up so early, it should be fun.

I also have to share this little love! This is Sadie, and she is so cute! Thank you so much April for sharing this beautiful photo with me.

I have to share these beautiful photos from Kellie too. I so love her beautiful daughter, Lulu. Her hair is tdf! I am sure she won't think so one day, but man, it is so pretty. I love the striped tights with the Royal Jelly. Gap has some great ones.

You are all awesome! BTW~ Got a letter today about the mammogram, and it was negative, but I need to follow up with my doctor. Phew! But I will give you a laugh on me, I was running down the stairs before, I was going back and forth between my sewing room and my bedroom, and what do I do? My foot slips, and I couldn't catch myself, slid right down a flight of stairs. Yup, I am sure it was quite the sight, and I am going to be sore tomorrow. Never a dull moment girls.

More Fabric and Down One Tooth....

Well, he had to pull my tooth last night. It was cracked down to the root. Oh well, one less tooth. There are far worse things. Actually, it wasn't that bad. I just felt pressure. My ear started to hurt at one point, but then he was done. I do have all my wisdom teeth still, so hopefully, the one next to the tooth pulled will shift over. My stomach just hurts today from the nastiness I swallowed. I will spare you. It has been an interesting week to say the least.

I have some more fabric for sale that I didn't put up yesterday. Same deal as the previous post. My husband thanks those of you who have purchased. He is a bit tired of looking at the bolts, lol. Normalcy...

: the state or fact of being normal

Lately I have been yearning to return to normalcy. But really what is normal. It's an individual thing I guess. To me, it is when life was simpler and easier. When the country wasn't in dire straights due to our failing economy, when I was in good health. It has been one thing after another, and thankfully, this has nothing to do with GenMarie. My tooth had been killing me for a few weeks, and I was trying to hold out from going to the dentist, well, because, he wants money, and honestly, I don't have much of that right now, but I finally went last week. Turns out I had an abscess and a cracked tooth. Fun. Tomorrow night I go back, and he may have to pull the tooth. It depends on which way it cracked.

Then Monday, I went for my yearly checkup at the Gyn, and she doesn't like the way the tissue feels in my left breast, and how my lymph nodes feel. So this morning, I am going for my first mammogram, and a sonogram. I am not afraid to have the tests, just nervous about the results. I am only 31, and although there is a history of breast cancer from my maternal grandmother, she had it later in life. She did ask me if I have been having a lot of caffeine lately, um... is 5 cups of coffee a lot? I know it is. I think it is time to take better care of myself. So, I am not freaking, because my friend had the same thing due to caffeine. It was my only saving grace to keep me going the past few months, but I did cut back to what I used to have, only 2 cups yesterday, and no chocolate. Maybe God is telling me to slow down a bit. I will let you know what happens. Ahhh, the joys of being a woman...

On the flip side, I got to spend the weekend with some of my favorite people, my good friends Keri and Stef, who also are FC's, and I got to meet the amazingly talented Gina Miller and Leah Profancik, who are our amazing photographers. I spent the weekend at Keri's, and despite having a nasty cold, it was great. The only sad part is I live so far from these gals. I got to see the fabulous barn where Gina shot a lot of photos. Very cool. She is so sweet. And, I got to have dinner with Miss Leah. She is just as sweet as she is talented. We got to hear about her trip to Australia. Love them both!

In Loving Memory...

Chris's grandfather passed away this morning. He is no longer suffering, and is at peace and home with God. He was a good man, and led a very full life. He has four loving children and countless grandchildren that love him, and will remember him fondly. He had been sick for quite some time, and I am at peace knowing he is no longer in pain. It was very sad to see him in pain, and no longer himself. It was all I could do to keep it together on Wednesday when we saw him in the hospital. He was so frail, and his wish was to stop dialysis and go in peace. He no longer wanted to fight. And four days after his decision, God called him home. I am glad for that. Emma just loved him to pieces, and I am glad that she got to spend time with her great grandfather. So this post is dedicated to him, and all who he touched through his years on this Earth.

Oh, and Ava is wearing her Sassafras skirt today to school. I paired it with this baby doll sweater from Gap. Too cute! The sweater just happens to be on sale right now too. It matches perfectly.

Fun Friday!!!!

Ok, so it has been a week! I am in desperate need of some fun. That being said, Melinda, came up with a brilliant idea, a contest to design one of our Spring pieces. This could be a top, skirt, dress, pant, whatever. Here is the deal, you need to scan in and email me a sketch of your design, and keep in mind that they are limitations due to manufacturing. I will choose the top five, and post them here, for you to vote. The winner, will receive one of their dresses, along with their choice of two pieces from the spring line, plus...the winner gets bragging rights amongst all their friends. AND...the dress style will be named after them. Melinda and I thought this would be a fun way to give those who are super creative and fashion savvy, who may or may not be able to sew, an opportunity to see their vision come to life. Trust me, there is nothing more rewarding. I truly am so excited to see what you come up with. Now, don't worry if you can't draw, I am no artist either. Just do your best, and you can use arrows and words to explain things as well. Sketches must be submitted by November 1st.

Black Tuesday?

So, I have heard of Black Monday, or Monday being the worst day of the week, but yesterday was just one of those days that warranted a few glasses of wine with dinner. The day started off with a lovely phone conversation with my husband. Then I took Ava to dance. While there, I get a phone call from my merchant account. They are just impossible to deal with. I come home to two more boxes of GenMarie, that's always a plus, and while I was carrying them in, I knocked my engagement ring against my sliding glass door. I look down and the entire head of my ring, gone. I found it, but it has been fixed a few times before, and the jeweler told me the next time I hit it, they would have to reset the whole ring. I am so upset. I definitely do not have the money right now to fix it. So I guess I won't be able to wear my rings for quite some time. Of course, my camera still isn't working, so no picture to share.

The day just continued on that way, and I swear, if I could have took a long walk off a short bridge, I would have.

This morning, we became aware that Chris's grandfather is not doing well. Tonight may very well be the last time we see him. He is 86, and has led a very full life, but he is suffering terribly right now. I am praying that God will show him mercy. He has been sick for quite some time now.

The good, I had a 4 cup of coffee morning, and sent out a lot more orders. Again, your patience and understanding means more than you will ever know. We are having a bit of a sizing issue, but this will not affect the holiday line. Check with your FC for details. We have fixed the problem on some items, and it will not be a problem in the future. I honestly don't know what went wrong. Ugh... that is all I have to say.

I will keep you al updated as the week progresses. I have to admit, I am so excited to take Emma and Ava to see HSM3 on Saturday. I loved the first two, the second more than the first, and sometimes, it is just nice to remember being young again.

How's It Going...

This seems to be the question I am hearing most these days. So I thought it would be a good time to update everyone. Like any startup company, we have hit a few bumps in the road. These have been frustrating, but I am happy to report, we have everything almost all worked out. We should be on track completely by week's end. Phew... I have lost a lot of sleep lately. I knew taking GenMarie to this level wouldn't be a walk in the park. The challenges we have faced will make success that much sweeter. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

I am still having camera issues, so I thought I would share some photos of the holiday line, that you haven't seen. The holiday line is still available, with the exception of the eggnog twist peasant top. That one just flew off the shelves! Quantities are very limited, so if you haven't placed your holiday order yet, get in touch with your FC.

A Sweet Little Lady...

Yes, it has been awhile, seems to be these days. I have been so busy with GenMarie, family and a new pup, that I barely have time to lay next to my husband at night. Believe it or not, we are already planning the Spring line, and there are lots of great new things in store.

Last weekend, one of my best friends since 6th grade got married. I have been trying to get the pictures into my computer, but guess what? Something is wrong with my camera. Getting my camera fixed is going to have to wait, since funds are limited. I am bummed to say the least. But she looked amazing. She wore the most beautiful strapless ivory dress, and they were married outdoors in Vermont, with the beautiful mountains behind them. It really was a beautiful ceremony. It is peak foliage in Vermont now, so it was quite the backdrop. As soon as I get my camera in check, I will share some pics.

And for my sweet little lady, meet Miss Alex, the lovely daughter of my amazing FC, Keri. Alex is the brains behind many of the names of our pieces. She loves being a part of GenMarie, and I just love her to bits. She asked her mom months ago when she can be a GenMarie Consultant. I told her when I won't be thrown in jail for child labor. ;) And I must say she is a force to be reckoned with on the soccer field too. Beauty, brains and athleticism. I don't envy her parents when the boys start knocking on the door in a few years.

Alex is wearing our Sapphire Sky skirt. She just looks so darn pretty. I don't think I will ever get tired of knee socks and mary janes.

The Good, The Bad, and The Pretty...

First the good...last Saturday was Ava's 4th Birthday! I can not believe my little baby turned 4! She is doing fabulous in pre-school. We celebrated with family last Friday night, then Saturday was the big day, we went to the American Girl store in Manhattan. It was so much fun! The girls love going there, and I do to. If only it had been around when I was little. Here are some pictures from our day.

Then last Monday night, we decided we would go adopt a dog from the animal shelter. We promised the girls we would get a dog when Tigger died, and honestly, I needed it too. So we went to Northshore Animal League, where we got our other cat, which is a wonderful no kill animal shelter. We were looking for a labrador retriever. We really wanted a girl dog, I don't need to be explaining to my girls about boy parts just yet. ;) We found the sweetest puppy, a lab and we believe a doberman mix. She is adorable, and so sweet...although a week later she has settled in, and is getting fiesty.

We are working on training her. She was potty trained the day after we got her. She already knows sit, and fetch. Now to work on the biting, although, I know that is just her teething. She is a love. She follows me around, and is my baby. She even puts herself to sleep in her kennel. Now I am thinking though, that we should have named her digger, as she loves to dig up my back yard...

Now for the bad...it seems as if we can't catch a break these days. I got a call Tuesday, and we had a major family crisis. My mom lives out of state, and she had to fly up on Tuesday. Unfortunately I can't share specifics, but I spent 4 days last week driving all over Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens. Probably close to 10 hours driving. It has been very emotionally draining.

Saturday things finally seemed to settle. It was the first day in 4 days I didn't have to run around. I put Emma to bed, and puppy was crying. I thought she was just crying for me. She has had some stomach issues, and it looked like she had to go to the bathroom. Chris grabbed her quick, and we ran her outside. He puts her down on the deck , and she falls over. She tries to walk and keeps losing her balance and falls. Then she goes into convulsions, and is having what appears to be a seizure. Her whole body is shaking, and she is drooling excessively, so I tell Chris to run and call the ER vet. I was sitting there on the floor trying to keep her calm, waiting for the seizure to pass. Well, it never passed. The vet tells us to come in immediately. The girls are asleep, so I have to drive her myself. I am doing 8o miles an hour, trying to keep her calm, all the while, she is still seizing, and her legs are crunching up. I rush her into the vet, and they immediately take her from me, then I lose it. It must be a mom thing to maintain composure when one of your kids is hurt or sick until they aren't near you. I am now in hysterics, and panicking, fearing the worst. This can't be happening, and I am not going to lose another pet. We are already super attached. Not to mention, we just spent over $1300 0n Tigger, and I am stretched very thin right now, having done the Fall line. They have to keep Coco overnight and she is not trembling anymore, but she is still drooling and not herself. They aren't sure if she has a problem in her brain, distemper, or, she was given medication for her stomach that day, and it could be a reaction to that.

She makes it through the night, and I stop in to see her the next day after yet another trip to Brooklyn. She is much better, but she is very lethargic, and she did have another episode in the night. By 4pm she was back to normal, playing eating, walking fine. We are pretty sure, it was an atoxic reaction to one of the medications prescribed for her stomach. She only had her first dose that day at 5pm, and then 4 hours later had the reaction. Poor thing only had been home for a few days, and she was back in a cage with an IV and a catheter. Long story short, she was home by 9pm Sunday night. What an emotional roller coaster. I said to the vet, who remembered us from Tigger, that leaving without an animal was not an option. My heart couldn't have taken it, nor the girls. We have discontinued all meds, and she is fine now. Now we just have to wait and see if happens again, and that would mean something more serious.

Sometimes, I can't believe this is my life, but that was 3 bad things, so we are good now, right?

NOW...for the pretty! Our Holiday Collection, Home For the Holidays is done, and sales begin tomorrow. This is a very limited collection, and I am really excited with how it turned out. In Loving Memory...

Last night around 8pm, we finally had to put our cat Tigger to sleep. I am grateful that we got to spend 3 extra weeks with him, but it didn't make it any easier. I knew it was coming, and for a bit, he seemed to be doing well, but on Tuesday, he wasn't eating, and having a hard time going to the bathroom, so I brought him into the vet. They gave him fluids and a steroid shot, and she said it wasn't the time yet. But he just never got any better yesterday. He laid on the couch all day, and when I brought him some food, he ate a bit, then about 45 minutes later, he threw up, and you could tell he was suffering. I made Chris call the vet, because I couldn't even talk without crying. She agreed, it was time now. So we took him after dinner, and we were all a mess, especially Emma. Poor Emma was in hysterics, crying that she wanted him to stay forever. That was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I could have accepted it more, if he just would have went on his own. I stayed with him when they did it, and held him, and talked to him. It just hurt so bad. Chris buried him last night and today the girls and I will get flowers to plant where he is. I spent all night crying, and couldn't sleep at all. I still can't talk, because I just keep tearing up. He was the best cat. So sweet and loving, and a giant teddy bear. People always commented on how big he was, over 20 pounds, and 3 feet stretched from head to tail. I will miss him climbing up onto my bed, and laying next me, and licking my head when I put it near his face.

I feel like someone punched me in the stomach today, and my heart literally hurts. I have had him since I was 19, and he was my first baby. I needed to share some pictures of him, he was such a beautiful cat. I don't think there will ever be another cat like him. He was like an old dog. I will miss him tremendously...

It has been quite some time since I posted, and I thank you for your emails of concern. I'm alive, it's just been super hectic and crazy. The season is under way, thank you all for your words of support and encouragement, and your purchases! I greatly appreciate it all!

On Friday, I am pretty sure, Ava had a seizure. I picked her up from school, and we were going to lunch with my friend and her daughter. Literally not even 2 minutes prior, Ava was playing and fine. All of a sudden, (we are in the car now) Ava screams, then throws her head back against her car seat, she clenches her mouth and eyes, and shivers a bit. She was completely unresponsive to me for about a minute. She started to slowly come out of it, and it was like it never had happen. My cat gets seizures, which is why I even thought that. I called the doctor, and he agreed, it sounded like one. She has an appointment to see the neurologist. It could have just been a fluke. I will keep you updated.

On another note, I had to share a picture from Ava's first day of school. Not the best pic. Bad mommy, I was running out the door.

She loves school, and what a difference a year makes. Last year, she just couldn't do it. She was glued to my side. Emma, on the other hand, used to love school, and is having such a hard time adjusting to the long Kindergarten day. Em still isn't feeling well, and I need to get her diet adjusted. It's so horrible to not be able to help her when her stomach hurts. Plus the two pips are already sick with colds. It's going to be a fun winter!

What A Week!

Where to start. Yesterday was Emma's first day of Kindergarten! I have been so anxious about it for days. Literally, my stomach has been in knots. She got up early, and was so excited. We had been to orientation the day before, so she got to meet her teacher and see her classroom. Chris went in late so he could see Emma get on the bus. There is only one first day of Kindergarten after all. We packed her lunch box full, and my sister painted her nails all pretty. The bus was late, I am sure because every mom, including myself, was snapping a picture as they got on. Plus the driver would wait until they got their seat belts on. Here is Emma all ready to go.

I did good, I didn't cry, although I wanted to. It was more her getting on a bus that freaked me out. But I made it, lol. And Emma loved the bus.

She came home from school, and of course when I asked what she had done at school, I got the "nothing". So, I emptied out her lunch box to see what she ate, and she had almost all of her snacks with her. I asked Emma what she ate for snack, and she said crackers. I said "what" panicked. She started crying and said she told the teacher she couldn't eat them, but she said no she had to. You can just imagine how "you know what" I am. I turned in her paperwork stating that she had celiac disease, and was not to eat anything except what comes in from home. It is also on her file through administration. I also told her teacher less than 24 hours before the same thing. I immediately called the school, and asked for her teacher. I got the I'm so sorry, I didn't have anything from the nurse, yadda yadda. I explain how sick it makes Emma to eat anything with gluten, and that is basically damages the lining of her small intestine, as calmly as I could muster. I said Emma even told you, and you told her she had to eat it, it was the other Emma in class that had allergies. Emma spent the night is severe pain, couldn't eat dinner, and still isn't right today. Mad isn't the word! She wants to take the bus today, so I will be driving behind her to speak to the principal and the nurse. Maybe then, this won't happen again. What if she had a nut allergy and couldn't breathe?! UGH!

On Wednesday, I went out back around 5pm. I hear this bird that I knew wasn't an outdoor bird. I am standing there looking at the trees, when all of a sudden, this guy swoops down at me!

Scared the you know what out of me! I am not a bird person. I think they are cute, but I am just not comfortable with them. He kept trying to land on me and be my friend. But after being attacked by a dog only a few months ago, I have a new respect for animals I don't know. I call my mother-in-law, and tell her she has to come get this bird. She is in the middle of dinner, and I tell her, I don't care, you have to come. She has an African Gray, and is the only one I know who will handle a big bird. Meanwhile, this guy tries to fly into my house behind me. That's when I snapped this picture. He was very sweet, whistling at me, bobbing his head. So I kept talking to him to keep him near me. But, he flew off. Now I feel bad, because I should have let him in the house, and shut the downstairs door, so my mother-in-law could get him. I spent a half hour out back whistling for him, but no birdie. I am keeping my eyes out for him, hoping he will come back, so my mother-in-law can give him a good home. Plus, he won't be able to survive when it gets cold here. Poor birdie...

And one last thing...

Aren't these beautiful! My girls, my FC's, sent them to me to celebrate our opening day. I am so lucky to have them all!

I hope you all had a restful day yesterday. And as you know, it was the first day of our Fall season! All of the FC's and myself are extremely excited by the feedback already coming in! Chris was home yesterday, and he and the girls made bird houses. Emma wanted a lemonade stand, but Daddy didn't have enough wood. So he whipped up two cute bird houses and the girls painted them. I must say they certainly add color to the oak tree they are hanging in, lol. Some pictures of the girls hard at work.

Tomorrow is Emma's Kindergarten orientation, then Thursday is the BIG day! Her first day of Kindergarten! I am already feeling anxious and sick to my stomach. I know I am going to cry putting her on the bus. It will be all I can do to wait until she is on the bus before I go into hysterics. I can't believe she is already going to Kindergarten!!! She of course is so excited. And the topper, her first adult tooth has cut, and her bottom center right tooth is loose. This is just too much for me...kindergarten and loose teeth! So sad, that she is growing up.

In four days we kick off our very first trunk show season! I don't know how August has escaped me, but it has. We are very excited, and hope you are too. The online catalog will be up soon! I would like to thank you all for you sweet words about my kitty, Tigger. So far, he is hanging in there, and we haven't had to put him to sleep yet. He is taking daily steroids which is buying us time, and making him eat and drink. He is super skinny, but not dehydrated. We are just thankful for the time we have with him. I know it is extremely limited. It is hard to know that any day, it will be the day...

My Sweet Baby...

My sweet cat Tigger became very sick 2 days ago, and we found out he has a large tumor in his stomach. The vet hydrated him yesterday, and today we made the choice to bring him home for a few days to spend more time with him, and say goodbye. On Monday, we will have to put him to sleep. We are all so incredibly sad. Poor Emma is beyond heartbroken, as am I. I don't know what is harder, knowing you will lose him in 2 days, or just doing it. But we gave Emma the choice, and she wanted to bring him home, and I did too. I just couldn't bring myself to do it today. So, if you don't hear from me for a few days, please understand. This is the absolute worst part of having pets.

It has been over a week since this tooth stuff started, and yes, I am still in pain. Thank goodness for Vicodin. It was my only saving grace since Thursday. I went back into the dentist first thing Saturday morning, and he removed the temporary filling and the packing. It seemed to help for a bit (he left it open), but by noon, I was back in severe pain. Obviously, there is way more going on here than we know. I am going back today to find some answer, as I can not keep losing all of this time so close to the Fall season starting. I was basically passed out from Friday until yesterday afternoon. I have NEVER been in so much pain. Thank you all so much for your well wishes. They mean a lot.

Pain Killers Please!

I stayed up late last night working, trying to work through the intense pain in my mouth. By 1 am I was ready to die! I am calling first thing this morning to get pain killers, as I am eating over 10 Motrin a day, which can't be good for my stomach. I had the root canal Monday, but it is taking forever for the antibiotics to kick in. I do not have time for this! I have been dragging myself through every day. This is the most pain I have been in since labor I think. This may even top labor. And thank you all for the well wishes.

Ok, enough about that...take a gander at this.

Gina sent this shot over and I love it! I am considering it for the cover of the fall catalog. I love the vintage look of this and the little baby doll she is carrying. So sweet.... No, the shrug isn't mine, but wouldn't that be a sweet piece to add to the line in the spring?!

Off to call the dentist and work. I can't believe it is mid August already! Where has the summer gone?!

Oh, My Aching Face...

I spent all weekend long fighting a massive infection in my mouth. Of course, this happens when the dentist is closed, and the service says go to the ER. Well, I certainly wasn't going to spend 5 hours in the ER for that, so I ate 11 Motrin and laid around with a hot compress on the left side of my face. I was totally wiped out too. The entire left side of my face from my jaw to my ear was throbbing. I am dreading what the dentist tells me today, as I know I am in for a root canal. I need to respond to emails still from this weekend, not to worry, I will get back to everyone later today after my lovely trip to the dentist.

The amazing Gina emailed me a few sneek peeks from a photo shoot she did for me Friday. Of course, I have to share. Gina is located in Indiana, and if you are in need of some fab pics, give her a buzz. She rocks!

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. It has been quite busy here. First, my poor husband had not one, but two crowns fall out of his mouth! This poor boy has the worst dental problems, and it is all genetic. But he got all fixed up this morning and hopefully, he won't be in any pain now. He's 33 and has the mouth of a 60 year old. I feel so bad for him. Good thing we have a great dentist!

I had a meeting the the other day with a manufacturing genius, and my Sales and Marketing Officer, and it's looking good ladies! Lots of surprises in store. I will share when I can. Funny story about that, we went to lunch, and I was following the waitress. She assumed I looked so young, she said, "Looks like someone has some homework to do." I said, actually they are here for me. Ha! That was fun to say!

I will introduce you to my team next week, so you can get to know everyone. We have a stellar group of individuals working for GenMarie, really amazing people! I don't know how I got so lucky...

I will give you a very rough peek of another piece from the Fall line. My photographers are hard at work taking some kick butt images. I can hardly wait to see!

The words we live by.

What a busy weekend! First I have to tell you about the concert, they ROCKED! It was awesome! There were two opening acts, Sara Bareilles and Counting Crows. She is great, I love her, not such a huge fan of Counting Crows. They are excellent performers though. Finally about 9:30, Maroon 5 comes on. The lights were dark, and you could see them walking onto the stage. We had amazing seats! Adam Levine is ridiculously sexy. That boy is so talented, and he comes out wearing white jeans and a tight white tee, my friend Francy and I were having hot flashes, lol. Sometimes, you just gotta love a bad boy. It was a lot of fun to oogle like teenage girls.
Saturday, I spent all day in Manhattan at one of my oldest friends bridal shower. We have been friends since 6th grade! She is getting married this October in Vermont. My friend Jenn, the Jenn who helps me cut orders, and I drove in. Some pictures from the shower:

Yesterday, I spent all day catching up on emails, and cutting out a slew of orders. Oh, and I ordered one of these:

Yup, an ipod touch. I needed a mobile device to get onto the internet and check emails with. I really didn't want a blackberry, and apple, which I am a huge fan of, came out with a new service for their iphone and itouch ipod, called mobile me. It syncs your iphone or itouch with your computer, so when you get an email, it automatically comes in on your itouch too. Totally cool! I love technology.

Off to work, and to referee the kids. OH....we think Ava passed her penny. Chris fished one out of the toilet, but he also found a screw and a nail, and I know she didn't eat those, so I am going to call the doctor and have them do an xray to be sure. Have a great day ladies!

Six new pieces from the Fall collection are up on etsy. I have limited the quantities initially until I can build up some stock. I want to make sure I don't get too ahead of myself. I met with the sewing contractor today, and it was very interesting to see how it works. I will keep you updated.

Thirty two. That is the number of pieces that are in the Fall line. DONE! The remainder of the fabrics came in Friday, another 12 bolts. Finished the last of the samples today. And if I do say so myself, it is one rockin collection! I would wear it.

Do you like the new play list? I was in a rock mood. I always listen to music when I work, especially when I am designing. Helps the creative juices. Secondhand Serenade has to be my favorite group right now. The whole cd is awesome!

You know, I have heard a lot of the word knock off lately being used to describe anyone who makes a knot dress or apron skirt. I personally find it incredibly insulting, and quite ignorant. I am sure, I will get some hate mail from this post, but it's ok. I will put on my big girl panties and can take it. ;) Allow me to share with you the process of creating a piece. It takes hours of time, choosing fabrics, plotting out the design, putting the fabrics together, then stitching it up. It also takes time to develop the patterns and grade them for size. So if people want to call that process, knocking something off, ok, then, fine. Who am I to say, I only have spent 70 hours over the past week finishing up my line. In fashion, everyone is inspired by someone or something.

Alrighty then...enough ranting, on to something sweet! I have to share three beautiful little girls with you. First up, little Miss Havalah. This precious five year old is three years past a liver transplant. And her mom, Kristen, is one of my amazing Trunk Keepers, and an all around great woman! Please, please, support organ donation! I can't say that enough. Think of the gift you are giving, life. There is nothing more beautiful and sacred.

Coffee Please...

I stayed up until 1 am last night working, and my girls got me up at 6:45. Right now I don't think there is enough coffee in the world to wake me up. It's the big push right now to finish up the Fall line to send to my photographers. I got 24, yes, 24 bolts of fabric in yesterday! Some amazing new prints from Heather Bailey and a few others. WAIT until you see what I did with them!

My mother-in-law sews for me, and she came by to pick up something, so I snatched her to sew some samples for me. I cut, while she sewed. Music blaring. Good times. Memories we will have forever. I am very thankful to have her working with me. She goes above and beyond all the time. Heck, she even let me snap her pic so I could post it on my blog. What a good sport!

And here she is working away. She actually helped teach me learn to sew when I started out. She always says to me now, and all you wanted to do was learn to sew, now look at you.

So far, we have fabulous Trunk Keepers in Wisconsin, Indiana, Kansas, California, and Missouri. Some of the best woman around! We still have room for a few more.

Back to work! One day it will get easier, right, lol.

I am been on overload lately. GenMarie is expanding rapidly, and with that, comes a whole new business plan. If you would have told me 2 1/2 years ago when I started my company, this is where it would be in such a short time, I would have said no way! I started my company then because of my infatuation with fabric, and children's clothing. Now it has become so much more. I lay in bed every night exhausted, yet I can't go to sleep, because my mind is spinning thinking about everything there is to do, or new design ideas. I am very close to securing a sewing contractor. This is good, very good. That means more time to develop new ideas, spend chatting with my amazing customers, and play with my girls. This is what I want. I will do my best to keep all of you in the loop, as the new plans unfold. I am very excited and nervous all at the same time. But getting the great feedback from all my customers is what makes it all worth it. I love every minute of this process. I am getting a manufacturing education on the go right now. But enough boring business stuff.

I have to share this beautiful photo of two of my beautiful little clients. This is Kaya ad her big sister Hailey. They are the exact same ages as my girls! Their mom, Diane, and I, have become close through our email chats. One day I promise Diane, I will get out there to see you!

Although you can't really see, Hailey is wearing my Fishy set from last summer. I still love this set! I love how you can see the love the girls have for each other.

OK, soooo....GenMarie will be celebrating it's official 2nd Anniversary next month! WOW! I don't know where 2 years went. First, I have to thank all of you, my amazing and wonderful customers. Without you, there would be no GenMarie. I am so fortunate to have gotten to know so many wonderful woman over the past 2 years and their families. I feel as if I could travel the country, and have a place to stay in almost every state. I love that I chat with my customers, and we share our lives, and although, for some, understanding the bond we have over the internet is hard, it is there and strong, none the less. Despite the fact that GenMarie is growing, one thing will NEVER change, the time I spend chatting with you all. This is very important to me. I love our chats, and getting pictures of your sweeties!

Seven Years Ago Today...

I stood up on the alter of the church I grew up going to, and married the most amazing man ever. It was an absolutely beautiful day, the weather was perfect, and I had waited for this day for what seemed like a lifetime. I never could have dreamed where our life would go, that we would be blessed with two beautiful little girls who make every day special. That the man I fell in love with at 18, would turn out to be such a caring and warm father, and the husband most girls dream of having.

Last night, one of my oldest BFF's came over to help me cut out orders. Jenn is a sewer herself, as well as, a recovery room nurse. I still can't believe she is a nurse, and gives IV's and what not! This is the girl I met in 7th grade, whose hair rivaled the height of the Empire State Building! As we were working, and blasting music, I thought, ooh, this is blog worthy! So I ran up and grabbed my camera. I thought it would be fun to show you part of the process that occurs after an order is placed.

Yup, her hair has come back down to a normal climate now... And in case you are curious as to why she has tape on her neck, she recently was attacked by a man with a scalpel, and when she woke up, she had tape on her neck. NO, JUST KIDDING, she had thyroid surgery last week, and is doing fine, and we have been coming up with interesting stories about her surgery dressing, lol.

and sometimes you get a little assistant...no, she didn't cut out your dress. Well if you get a crooked dress, that was one of Emma's. :)

Introducing Miss Violet, another of my sweet models. I just love her, and want to eat her up! Her mom, Kiri, is an amazing photographer and a truly wonderful person. I feel really blessed to have so many talented and beautiful people working with me. I found some of the most stunning images in my email this morning. I had to share a few with you.

She read on my blog about what I was doing, and was so touched by the stories, she is donating two sets! April's work is amazing! Her applique will knock your socks off. I have known April for quite some time now, and recently got to meet her at Vida's Market. She is an amazingly talented momma to five! Yes five! I don't know how she does it! So I won't make you wait any longer....

What I Did on Summer Vacation...

Ok, not really, but what we did last week while my husband was off from work.

I took Emma to see the Kit Kitteridge movie. It was soooo good! Great story line, very good lesson for kids to learn. It was set in the depression, and showed what people had to do to survive. Definitely go see it!

Then we drove up to Ridgefield, CT, to check out the area. Love it! So beautiful and quaint. Now that we narrowed down the area, we just need to sell our home, and find a new one.

Then we went to the beach. I love the beach. So relaxing. Chris doesn't care for it, but we all had a great time. The girls love it. Here are some pics.

We dug out a hole near the water for the girls to play in. The waves were rough to go in.

A 4th of July Giveaway....

In the spirit of celebrating life, I am giving away one special knot dress to one lucky girl. I recently met a friend whose daughter had been through quite a bit, and thankfully is doing well right now. She is three years post a liver transplant, and still faces a life of medication and possible complications. There are so many children who are sick with life threatening illnesses. I look at my girls and am grateful every day for their health. It brakes my heart to think about all the children out there who have cancer, heart disease and other life threatening diseases. Children are far too innocent, and should never have to go through something like that. Their biggest worry in life should be what flavor ice cream to eat.

I believe in giving back, and hope. If I can make one child smile, even for a brief moment, because of my work, then I am overwhelmed with joy. If you know a child who is going through a tough time because of a terrible illness, who would love a special dress, post a comment here, and share their story. I will announce the winner here on July 15th.

My Pre-School Grad & Dancing Queen...

I can not believe I am the mother of a soon to be kindergartner. It feels like only yesterday I was rocking this little baby in my arms. It is so sad how fast time goes. Last Thursday was her graduation ceremony from Pre-School. Here she is in all her glory.

Something I Just Don't Understand....

addiction.

The word in itself is just sad. You hear the word and it instantly evokes unpleasant memories or feelings if you have been impacted by it. I just don't get it. I understand it can be hereditary. I understand it can be from depression. I understand it can be a medical and emotional vice. What I don't get, is why would you want to hurt yourself. Maybe at the moment you just don't know any better. Maybe you feel so small and insignificant, you need something to take that away. I wish people knew how terribly it impacted their lives. How it hurts those who love them. How sad it is to watch a life being thrown away. How you wish you could turn back the clock to a time when it wasn't even a thought. How you wish you could save them from themselves.

I feel helpless.

And sad.

I can't think of anything else right now, other than, how I am affected by it. How my girls cherish and love this person, and they will not understand why they can't see them. How sad they will be. How I will dry their tears, and not be able to explain. How I must protect their innocence and pray to never have this situation happen to them.

My stomach is just turning, and I can't even shed the tears that are trying to come out. It is very hard to give tough love. I just want to shake them. Scream. Plead. But none of this will help, and I know I must sit back quietly, and watch the sadness unfold.

My heart is breaking...

I ordered over 40 bolts of fabric yesterday for the Fall Line which will be available soon! Yes, it is Friday again already. I don't know how it gets here so quickly, but it is my favorite day of the week. It's the start to the weekend, and my most creative night. I make myself two cups of coffee, and get to work. Work for me usually goes like this, sip of coffee, cut some fabric, sing really loud to my really loud music (my neighbors must think I am nuts), sew, drink more coffee. This tends to be the routine for about 4 hours or until I can no longer keep my eyes open. ;)

And check out Miss Lauren! Doesn't she look super beautiful in her Blossom Knot dress! Thank you Londie for sharing! You are the best girl!

Ok, now back to the creative thing. I am working on Fall designs, sketching like mad. I would love your feedback. What are you looking for this fall? Post a comment and let me know. There are lots of fab new fabric lines that you will just die over!

Last Day of Dance...

It's hard to believe it is the end of the school year already, and with that, comes Emma's first dance recital! I snapped a few pics of her last day of dance class. Ava, refused to leave my side when we tried it with her in September. Now look at her.

Check out this little doll! This is Carla's daughter, one of the sweetest customers ever! Isn't her daughter just darling in her Teatime Knot Dress!? I want to eat her up! Sis Boom Spring Event...

I left my house around 9 am for the drive up to Connecticut to see Jennifer Paganelli. And of course 15 minutes into my ride I hit this:

Silly me for thinking I could at least make it to the bridge without traffic. Road work...always. Made it through fairly quickly, and I am having a grand 'ole time. Music is blasting, (I think I can sing ;)), sipping my coffee, it's a great day. As I approach the Throgs Neck Bridge, more traffic. It was moving at least. I wonder what the people driving next to me thought. What is this crazy chick doing with the camera. I am sure it was a sight, lol.

Finally once I am over and through the toll, it is smooth sailing. The drive up on Merit Parkway is very peaceful. The trees create a canopy over the road, and it is just beautiful.

I arrive at Jennifer's house. It is a lovely home, old and beautiful. Lots of big windows, a wrap around porch, really just lovely. The area she lives in is amazing, and I am in love. This is the town I want to move to. It's just so quaint. I will be house hunting there for sure.

I walk up to the front door of her home, a bit giddy, but containing myself, and walk in. I see her right away, but I try to play it cool. I sign her guest book, and make my way over to her. I introduce myself, and she greets me so sweetly. Big hug, it was like meeting an old friend. Jennifer is just the most genuine, nice person you will meet. She is so sweet! But for those of you who have met her, you know this. ;) Her home is all set up with her Sis Boom collection. Pure eye candy! Eeeeekkkk, I could spend days studying every item. Not only are there fabulous items with her many fabric lines, but gorgeous crafts, jewelry, and paintings. It was truly awe inspiring. Ok, I know, enough talk, show the pics.

Where all the magic happens. Jennifer told me to go upstairs and check out her studio. I took more pictures, but they blurred :( It is an amazing space, with walls of windows. She had lots of Christmas wreaths she has made, crafts, glitter, and of course fabric. There were 3 beautiful antique cabinets with glass facings, curtained with her lime and blue nuella fabric. You can see them in a bit in the background in the picture. And a gorgeous chest of drawers in a sage color. What a treat it was to see where she creates.

I was so inspired by her home. It was a designer's dream! I will be crazy at work, coming up with new designs for Fall. I had such a great time chatting with Jennifer. It's amazing to me the bond women who create instantly share. It was a great moment for me to meet one of the people who inspire me most. And for her to be so lovely...she even volunteered her daughter to babysit my girls when we move there. I bought one of her halter dresses for myself, and I will cherish it. I am sure this will not be my last visit to her home. Thank you Jennifer, for spending time with me, inspiring me, and sharing your home with me!
